Banks, exchanges and market infrastructure firms are quietly lobbying European regulators to slightly delay sweeping changes to Europe’s trading rulebook amid last-minute panic that the reforms will cause “a Y2K event”.

Senior traders and regulatory specialists at financial institutions subject to the new rules are asking markets regulators from the UK, France, Spain and the Netherlands to postpone the introduction of Mifid II once more, according to two people familiar with their efforts.
