The regulator is overhauling one of its most prized contracts

It’s one of the hottest tickets in compliance. When the Financial Conduct Authority has concerns about dodgy dealings at a firm, they send in the experts. The best part? The firm under investigation pays the bill, and those bills can be significant.

Such probes are called skilled person reviews, or Section 166s. Getting on the regulator’s panel that’s picked for the job is a prized placement. Now, that panel is up for review and some of the City’s top regulatory experts are jockeying for position again.
