Private equity firms that have snapped up wealth managers amid a wave of consolidation in the sector are struggling to find the exit.

Buyout firms have rushed to buy wealth firms across the UK in recent years in a bid to cash in on an ageing population that is living longer. This means they want more help with their investments after the pension freedoms unlocked billions in fresh capital.
