SEC trading proposal sparks Wall Street outcry

Agency considers requiring brokerages to route individual investors’ stock orders into auctions

Brokerages and trading firms pushed back forcefully against Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler’s proposed changes to US stock-trading rules, saying the market is functioning well for ordinary investors.

Gensler outlined the potential changes 8 June and was greeted with scepticism from an array of financial-industry executives who said the SEC’s far-reaching plans are unnecessary.
