Let us hope the new crop of Members of the European Parliament voted for in last week's elections will preside over a bigger recovery in the markets than the last lot.
According to Dow Jones, since the last European elections in 1999, its UK titans index has fallen by 20% â four percentage points more than European Stoxx 50 index. So much for talk about the UK escaping the worst of the downturn. At least the indices have done better than the world as a whole. Dow Jones's global titans has plunged by more than a quarter in the past five years.
